Quilted Garden

Last week was beautiful. Prairie Quilt Guild participates in an exciting event held at Botanica Gardens here in Wichita. I met with Lisa Johnson of Picket Fence Quilt Company (who has done so much in setting up this event) and Paula Englert of Botanica to walk through the layout before the show.
While strolling through with the wonderful ladies that plan this event, we took some pictures of the beautiful roses.
There are wonderful statues, fountains, beautiful trees and amazing flowers everywhere. It is a perfect backdrop for the quilt show. The beautiful, bright quilt draped over this statue's arm was created by one of our guild members, Melanie Rose.
I set up a crocheted tent to display my Sleepy Bags and tote. It was fun to see all of the quilts displayed throughout the gardens.
The link below has some great pictures and an article about the show. What a wonderful way to celebrate quilting, sewing and our community!

Cute Kid Contest Winners!

Congratulations to our first place winner, Kylie Rott and son, Graham. Kylie has won a $100.00 gift certificate to her favorite quilt shop - The Picket Fence Quilt Company of Wichita, KS.
Our judges love Kylie's choice of fabrics and colors used to make the Argyle Dreams quilt. The dark brown stitching she added pops and really makes this project "hers". Thank you Kylie and Graham!
Shaelin and sister Ava (below) and mother, Melissa Newcome
have won second place in the Cute Kid Contest. Melissa wins a $50.00 gift certificate to her favorite quilt shop, Cottonwood Quilts in Hutchinson, KS. The judges love the fabric and ric-rac trims Melissa used on the Britches and Bloomers pattern she sewed for each of the girls. Darling trims and roses on each of the shirts, matching hair bows and sandals! Twice the work and all done so well.

Tamara Gonzales at Leisure Arts!

Exciting news, about my sister Tamara. She is blogging for Leisure Arts. Check out her introductory video. She has some inspiring crochet ideas. She will be blogging for them regularly. http://www.crochetsoiree.com/.
How proud we are of her following her heart and doing what she loves!

Happy Mothers Day!

I spent this weekend with the girls, Ava and my mom. We took pictures and oogled the baby!
Each person in this photo is so special to me, each has taught me to be a mother, love my mother and love myself as being a mother.
I love this photo of our hands. They each tell a story about the life that has been lived thus far.
I wish my daughter, Angie a happy first Mother's Day! And happy Mother's Day to all of you! God Bless!

Shopping on Main Street

Last weekend I took a little road trip to Hutchinson to speak at a lovely shop called Cottonwood Quilts. The staff, Marie, Linda and Vicki were so helpful, everything was so clean and well set up! Bobette, the shop owner (pictured with me) was so prepared, my visit was even announced on the radio!

We had a nice crowd of quilters, some brought items they made for a show and share. This quilt had a chenille technique that was fun to see.

I always enjoy these visits to shops, but visiting Cottonwood Quilts was particularly wonderful. I loved getting to walk along Main Street and look at other shops and their windows, grab a cup of coffee and stroll. I love the small downtown atmosphere there. What a wonderful group of ladies and fun way to pass the weekend.

Cottonwood Quilts has a nice website and even features a virtual tour of the shop at http://www.kscottonwoodquilts.com/. I hope I was able to spell names correctly, ladies! You did a great job!

Spring Fever

It snowed last weekend, yesterday it rained, then snowed, then melted. But today there is promise of sunshine. I have Spring Fever! While waiting for Spring make up it's mind, I have been working on a free downloadable project for my website. I used fabrics from my Little Man & Me Too line. Shop owners can download this project to create a quick model for their shop. The pattern should be up in the next week or so.
Lovelies from my shelves.
Happy spring sewing!
